1. What is Sadaqa?

The word sadaqa comes from the Arabic root "sidq," meaning sincerity. Unlike zakat, which is a religious obligation, sadaqa is a voluntary donation in Islam, given solely out of love for Allah. It can take many forms:

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Protect yourself from the fire, even with a piece of date!” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

A small donation can have a great impact.

2. The Benefits of Sadaqa

a) Sadaqa Purifies and Protects

Allah says in the Qur’an:
“Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and bless them, and pray for them!” (Surah 9, At-Tawbah, verse 103).

Giving charity in Islam removes sins and brings blessings. The Prophet ﷺ affirmed:
“Charity does not decrease wealth.” (Muslim).

b) Sadaqa Removes Trials

Our scholars explain that sadaqa protects from misfortunes and attracts divine mercy. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymin رحمه الله said:
“Sadaqa is effective in removing worries and misfortunes.” (Sharh Riyadh As-Salihin, vol. 1).

3. Sadaqa in Muslim Entrepreneurship

Ethical Muslim businesses have the responsibility to integrate sadaqa into their model. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The best of you are those who are most beneficial to others.” (At-Tabarani, authenticated by Sheikh Al-Albani).

At Sahabamens, we have made sadaqa a pillar of our business. By allocating 5% of our revenue to charitable actions, we offer our customers the opportunity to contribute to Muslim humanitarian projects.

4. How to Participate?

The Prophet ﷺ mentioned several forms of sadaqa:

    • “A man removed a branch that blocked a path, and Allah forgave him.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

    • “A man gave water to a thirsty dog, and Allah showed him gratitude and forgiveness.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

    • “A smile directed to your brother is a sadaqa.” (At-Tirmidhi).

The ways to give in sadaqa are varied:

    • Financially: Help the needy, support Islamic charitable works.

    • Through knowledge: Teach useful knowledge.

    • Through actions: A simple smile, removing an obstacle from the path.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Every joint of the human body must perform a sadaqa every day the sun rises.” (Muslim).

Conclusion

At Sahabamens, sadaqa is a collective mission between us and our customers. Every purchase contributes to a Muslim humanitarian project, helping support charitable actions and continue a prophetic tradition.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever guides to a good deed will have a reward equivalent to the one who performs it.” (Muslim).
